Change is inevitable--Forgetting our past is not.

Culture

Welcome to the Heritage site for the Riley Park–South Cambie (RPSC) area of Vancouver, BC. Every community has a history, and our knowledge of its past deepens our understanding and appreciation of the place that we have made our home.

We live in a time of great change in Vancouver, and the RPSC area is one of the city’s most evolving. RPSC of the last 125 years is rapidly being redesigned, repurposed and rebuilt. As local residents, we believe that it is important to preserve as much of this area’s history as possible before our collective memory fades.

Within each of the navigation categories you will find short features that describe the history of local places that once existed, as well as background stories of buildings and sites that are still here. We hope that these will enrich your appreciation of our community, its people and places.

While Riley Park South Cambie does not contain any formal
institutions— such as museums and concert halls— that are devoted to
art and culture, the area has contributed to the city’s vibrant popular
and civic culture over the last century. Here are some of those stories.
